Our Founder

Born in Wisconsin, David Hall (left) graduated in 1990 from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor's of Science in Education. Always an avid outdoorsman, he spent many years working with Outward Bound, youth-at-risk programs, and adventure wilderness programs.

Later, after purchasing an 1887 farmhouse in Minneapolis along the Mississippi, he discovered a deep love of old houses, building and fine woodworking. He apprenticed with expert craftsmen and developed his own skills as a remodeling carpenter. Eventually he decided to take the leap to become an independent contractor, and opened Guild Hall, Inc. in 1991. In the early years, Guild Hall specialized in remodeling elegant period homes in the Minneapolis area.

In 1998 David took another leap and moved to Vashon Island to build his own home from the ground up. He, and Guild Hall, are constantly learning, growing, and searching for ever-evolving construction solutions.
